Why You Need an Argentine Death Certificate

An Argentine death certificate (partida de defunción) is the official record of a death registered in Argentina. You may need it to open a probate case, transfer property or bank accounts, claim a pension or life insurance, remarry, or prove your family line for Italian or Spanish citizenship. Most institutions ask for a recent certified copy, not an old one. It’s one of the certificates we handle as part of our Argentina vital records service.

A Real Law Firm, Not a Faceless Website

Most certificate websites in Argentina are anonymous. We’re a law firm with a name and a face: we started getting death certificates for our own probate cases, because every estate in Argentina starts with one, and after years of doing it every week we opened the service to everyone. When you send us a request, attorney Elias Kier Joffe and his team are behind it.

What We Need to Find the Record

The full name of the person who died, the date and the city or province of death. An ID number or a photo of an old copy helps a lot. If you don’t have every detail, tell us what you know: we search the right civil registry and tell you upfront what’s realistic.

Apostille, Translation and Delivery

If you’ll use the certificate outside Argentina, we get the apostille and, if needed, a certified translation into English. You get a digital copy as soon as it’s ready and the original by international courier, wherever you live.

One Point of Contact for Legal, Tax and Notarial Matters

We are a one-stop legal solution. Our team includes lawyers, accountants, Argentine notaries (escribanos) and certified translators, all under one roof and coordinated by attorney Elias Kier Joffe. When needed, we also work directly with your own lawyers back home, for example on your citizenship application or the estate you’re settling.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I get an Argentine death certificate from abroad?

Fill out the request form on this page. We find the record in the right civil registry, get the apostille and translation if you need them, and send the certificate to you.

Do I need to travel to Argentina?

No. We handle everything in Argentina and send the certificate to you anywhere in the world.

Can you find an old death certificate?

Often, yes. With the name, an approximate date and the city or province of death, we can search the registry. If the information is incomplete, we tell you upfront what’s realistic. No one can create a new certificate if the original record doesn’t exist.

How much does an Argentine death certificate cost?

It depends mainly on the year of death and the province. Recent records, from around 1990 onward, are usually much easier to get than old ones, such as a death registered in 1910, which often needs a manual search in the archives. The City of Buenos Aires is the easiest, because its registry is centralized; the Province of Buenos Aires and the rest of the provinces usually take more work. The price also depends on whether you need an apostille or a translation, and on the delivery. Fill out the form and we reply within 24 hours with a written quote.

Can I use the death certificate for a probate case abroad?

Yes. Tell us which court, bank or office will receive it. We get a recent certified copy with the apostille and translation they require. If the estate also has assets in Argentina, our probate team can help you with that too.
