Notarial Services in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Consular Officers provide a service similar to the functions of a notary public in the United States. Notarial services are available to all U.S. citizens and foreign nationals with documents for use in the United States.
Notary services are offered by appointment only Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 pm. If you have multiple documents to be notarized, you only require one appointment for that day. There is no fee to make an appointment, but while at the Embassy, you will need to pay a $50 USD fee for each notarial service.
On the day of your appointment, please arrive 15 minutes early for screening and bring:
• The unsigned documents to be notarized;
• A valid government-issued ID that includes your signature and was issued within the past 5 years. A driver’s license, passport, DNI or cédula de identidad are acceptable, a student ID is not;
• A form of payment (U.S. dollars, Argentine pesos, or a credit card).
If your notary service requires a witness, you must arrange for your own witnesses. Consular Officers and staff may not serve as witnesses.
The following documents can be notarized at the U.S. Embassy byappointment:
• Real estate documents
• Powers of attorney
• Forms for U.S. courts
• Saving bonds
• True Copies for W7 form (bring original documents with its corresponding photocopies)
The Embassy does not issue apostilles or authenticate U.S. or Argentine-issued documents, such as birth, marriage or death certificates. We cannot translate, authenticate or provide true copies of academic credentials or other documents. We cannot provide Medallion Signature Guarantees and cannot notarize Affidavits of Support.
If you are not sure if your document can be notarized at the Embassy, please email BuenosAires-ACS@state.gov. The subject line of your email should state “Notarial Question” and the email should include information about the type of document you wish to have notarized and where it will be used. We will inform you of whether the document can be notarized at the Embassy.
If an appointment is not available before the date on which your documents must be notarized, please email BuenosAires-ACS@state.gov and use the subject line “Emergency Notarial Appointment.” The email should include a brief explanation of why you are requesting the emergency appointment, the date and time for which you wish to schedule the emergency appointment, the number of documents you need notarized, and your telephone number. We will contact you as soon as possible.
